MiNIBUS DRIVER AWARENESS SCHEME

What is MiDAS? 

MIDAS is the Minibus driving awareness scheme, which is administered by the community transport association. 

The scheme provides a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers and has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards to promote the safer operation of minibuses. 

Midas is available to any organisation operating or using minibuses. Organisations that train their drivers in Midas range from small voluntary organisations with one vehicle, to local authorities operating large fleets of minibuses, as well as school, colleges and universities.

Excellence coaches have a number of driver assessor trainers. (DATS) Who train and assess individual Minibus drivers within the organisation. These courses are delivered with carefully designed and well-planned material, which allows the learner to easily grasp the importance of what it means and feels to be a minibus driver. And to have a meaningful connection with driving passengers to different locations all around the UK.

HOW AND WHERE IS MIDAS DELIVERED? 

The course is delivered one on one, in a group of 4 or maximum 6 participants at one time. The course is delivered in one working day if more training is needed it can be arranged on different days. The course is delivered on the premises of schools, colleges, and on the premises of Organisations and charities, or it can be delivered on the premises of Excellence coaches. 

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE? 

The course involves classroom sessions followed by a theory test. Which all applicants have to complete and pass. Once the theory is passed then the practical driving sessions begins. This involves a full walkaround check. Making clear all individuals have an understanding of the importance of why a walkaround vehicle check is needed this can take up to 20mins. The practical sessions are for an hour, so each individual has a grasp behind the driving seat followed by a 45 min practical test. 

WHEN DO I GET MY MIDAS CERTIFICATE? 

All applicants have to pass the theory and practical test to obtain a certificate. If successful, then the certificates are issued the same day.

(Please note, completing a Midas course does not change your entitlement to drive a minibus)
